kMS ver. 1.2.212 – Freud’s Diary & the Onyx Ring!

A new patch has been released to the real server, but it is again just events. Don’t worry though, this one is actually very cool and super interesting! It’s honestly a great event and I hope there’s going to more like it in the future.

In addition, another MapleStory 2 teaser has been released, this time with the first BGM of the game!

The event that has begun is called Freud’s Diary – the Onyx Ring, and it runs until April 23. It details Freud’s adventures after the Black Mage was sealed away and he was left alone uncursed. This event is both story-related and it gives a great item!

It starts with you finding an old soldier named Anello being attacked by the Dark Warrior Mokadin (one of the Elite Bosses). After you save him, he gives you a few items.

• Onyx Ring “Encounter” - 1 all stats, 10 HP and MP, 20 defense and magic defense (summons the Element Onyx, the little ball of light near the character)
• Damage Skin Storage Scroll – allows you to store one Damage Skin inside it while you are using another, you can switch them out at any time (scroll expires in 90 days)
• Freud’s Diary

The Onyx Ring is the basis of this event, as you bond with it, it evolves and gets better stats. But along the way, Freud’s words come to you in the form of his diary, and they’re actually really sad…

We fought together to save the world,
It wasn’t perfect but we were able to achieve our goal.
As a result, my friends received a curse.
A friend shielded me and thus I am still here, alone.

One day you will return, my friends,
Aran, Mercedes, Phantom, Luminous,
and Afrien…
People will not forget you,
I will leave a part of my memory here.

One day, these memories will remind others of you.

This is the first part, after getting the “Encounter” ring.

You can begin to upgrade the ring right away. The 1st Growth  is available from March 27 to April 23, but the 2nd Growth can only be unlocked after April 3.

In order to upgrade to the Onyx Ring “Share”, you must defeat 999 monsters for Anello. It gives 2 all stats, 20 HP and MP, and 10% chance to inflict a status condition.

After doing so, you’ll be able to choose an element for your ring. Each element gives a chance to inflict a different status condition, and at the 2nd growth, they will give different stats.

• Fire: chance to inflict Slow (2nd Growth – maximum critical damage increase)
• Lightning: chance to inflict Stun (2nd growth – critical chance increase)
• Ice: chance to inflict Freeze (2nd growth – minimum critical damage increase)
• Earth: chance to inflict Blind (2nd growth – resistance to statuses and elements)
• Poison: chance to inflict Poison (2nd growth – defense ignore increase)
• Light: chance to inflict Seal (2nd growth – boss damage increase)

Choosing your element can only be done once and cannot be changed. The colour of the Onyx which is summoned when you wear the ring will change based on the element.

The situation is not going as well as you’d think.
The Black Mage was sealed, but evil is still running rampant accross the continent.
Most people have left, in search of a new continent to call home.
Some people could not leave, without suffering.

Do you know what I can do for the remaining people?
Helping everyone…
My strength and time are too limited.

There is not much I can do for the ones who are alone…

It was all thanks to Afrien that I was able to fight the Black Mage along with my friends.

Here’s the second entry of Freud’s diary, unlocked after the 1st growth.

You can upgrade your “Share” ring to the Onyx Ring “Growth” after April 3 by defeating 1 Normal Zakum. Now, the ring will gain the specific stat I mentioned above, 10% to be exact (e.g. 10% critical chance increase, 10% boss damage, etc). These rings are like Dojo gloves in that their stats are given through ‘Special Potential’ and cannot be cubed.

The “Growth” Ring gives 3 all stats, 30 HP and MP, 1 attack and magic attack, with 20% chance to inflict the status. It gains 10 slots and the ability to level up (to a max of level 5). After levelling up fully, the ring will give an extra 7 all stats, 70 HP/MP, and 4 attack/magic attack.

The Onyx will reach its final form, a fairy. This effect will not appear if you have another item such as the Angelic Blessing equipped.

I don’t have the diary entry from this part yet (because I can’t upgrade it) but I can add it if you guys are interested.

There are also a bunch of side quests you can do while this event is going on. The first is Befriending the Onyx Ring, which requires you to hold an item for 30 minutes. After completing this, you can choose one of three buffs: one that gives 1.5x experience, one that gives 30 attack, or one that gives 30 magic attack, all lasting 30 minutes.

You can do this up to 4 times per day.

There’s also the Onyx Ring Training, from Anello. Each day, he will give you the choice of one of 5 different options to train your Onyx Ring.

• Defeat 300 monsters around your level
• Clear Monster Park 3 times
• Complete [Befriending the Onyx Ring] one time
• Defeat Easy Zakum
• Get 100+ Combo Kill

Completing it will give you the choice of a certain prize depending on the week.

1st~2nd Week (March 27 – April 9)

• Mastery Book 20
• Mastery Book 30
• Eternal Flame of Reincarnation (can only be chosen as a prize once per week)

3rd Week (April 10 – April 16)

• Onyx Stone of XXX (a 100% scroll for the Onyx Ring “Growth” which gives 8 STR/DEX/INT/LUK/400 HP/4 all stats)

4th Week (April 17 – April 23)

• Onyx Stone of Attack (100% scroll for the Onyx Ring “Growth” which gives 1 attack)
• Onyx Stone of Magic Attack (100% scroll for the Onyx Ring “Growth” which gives 1 magic attack)

Anello also has weekly goals for you to meet, and if you do, he’ll give you prizes!

Another fun little event that is related is called the Who Am I? event, and it runs until April 9. Basically, on the homepage, you can access this cute minigame where each day, you have 10 seconds to enter the name of the NPC shown, for 10 NPCs in total. You can ask for a hint and it will give you the consonants (or like… the Korean equivalent I guess) of their name.

After all 10 NPCs have been shown, it will count up your right answers and give you 50 Mileage for each correct one! That’s 500 per day if you get them all right, 7000 for the whole event haha.

Also, if you get 100 correct in total or more, you’ll receive a free Rainbow Nametag Ring and Rainbow Chat Ring.

Also, the Experience Coupon Great Giveaway!! event has begun and will run until April 20. Every Saturday and Sunday during this event, you’ll receive 6 free 30 minute 2x Experience Coupons!

In the Cash Shop, the April Royal Hairs and the Trendy Royal Faces of this month have been released.

Finally, for MapleStory 2, they have released the Sweet Breeze BGM, which is stated to be for Henesys! There’s also a cute animation of a slime~ Thanks to x3TheAran59 for the video.

MapleStory 2 – Berserker! & Inkwell’s Secret Diary – Cygnus Returns Schedule!

I don’t want to fall behind again so I’ll make this post now haha. A new teaser picture has been released for MapleStory 2, this time with information about the Berserker class! I’ll put the translation after the cut~

EDIT: A new Inkwell’s Secret Diary entry has been released, with information about when we will be receiving the last 2 Cygnus Returns update!!

BERSERKER

Rulers of the battlefield who love to fight. Without fear due to their obsession and madness, Berserkers rampage while wielding their Great Sword and instill fear within their opponents. They charge straight into enemy lines, destroying them with their overwhelming power. When cornered, they bring out an even more amazing strength.

Maple World’s Berserkers are known to be raised in a tribe from Perion. In order to survive the barren and harsh environment, their tribe became stronger and more gifted warriors than others. Those who learnt to swing a sword before they could even walk were given the name Berserker.

When one of the three Lapenta who were protecting the Maple World fell, chaos arose. Perion’s Chief, Heart of Red Wolf, allowed even those not from the tribe, but who had extraordinary fighting spirit and tough strength become a Berserker. However, the physical and mental prowess needed exceed human limits, and very few become true warriors.

I’m not actually sure what the Lapenta are, but I’m definitely liking the backstory the classes are getting. I can’t wait for the Ranger and Gunslinger!

               

The homepage also added these new avatars, which I assume feature characters from MapleStory 2 (since they included Bella and Ereb). I wonder who all these other people are going to be?

kMS ver. 1.2.211 – White Day! & Inkwell’s Secret Diary – Return of Cygnus Returns?!

Hey guys! I know it’s been a while since my last post, and that’s sort of a combination of both me being super busy and kMS being super boring haha. Anyways, I have missed a bunch of stuff so I’m gonna catch up all in one post.

There’s one new event in kMS, a few new MapleStory 2 teaser pictures, and something I know a lot of people have been waiting for, information about the final 2 Knights of Cygnus!

The Charge! Solo Unit!! event has begun and will run until March 26. It celebrates being single on White Day haha. Basically, monsters around your level will be dropping candy which you can loot to collect Candy Points.

It’s also a sort of attendance check, each day you have to collect at least 1000 Candy Pointsin order to be counted. After 7 days, the statue in town will be completed!

For each day you complete this task, you’ll get a special prize.

• 1 day: Solo Unit Battle Cape and Solo Unit Battle Armor (when worn, you get extra Candy Points when looting candy, they both expire after the event is over)
• 2 days: 20 Power Elixirs
• 3 days: Involuntary Celibacy medal (gives 3 all stats, 2 attack and magic attack)
• 4 days: 10,000 Candy Points
• 5 days: 500 Mileage
• 6 days: Special Potential Scroll
• 7 days: 2 Eternal Flames of Reincarnation

Finally, use up your collected Candy Points to buy special items!

Tria. Maple World’s people have become familiar with the city’s blessings and honor. It became the largest and busiest in Maple World after the Empress decided to live in Tria Palace.

The Empress’ divine power protects the palace and many believers gathered around it, growing larger and larger. Tria has gained political and economic influence, and culture and has become the most important city in all the world.

People gathered to honor the Empress who they loved and worshipped. They showed it through their blessings to the glory of the Empress.

Beginner Adventurer Couple ♡

Regardless of their age, many young Adventurers become very interested in their future. In order to do that, they rush up to retired old magicians and ask frequently how to become a magician. This happens very often to Ellinia’s single magician, who begins to head the opposite way when he sees any young Adventurers.

This one just says that the next posting will be about the jobs in MapleStory 2, which doesn’t really matter for us since it has already been released!

Berserker – Knight – Wizard – Priest – Ranger – Gunslinger – Chief – Assassin

We were worried about how to introduce different jobs so we created these initial sketches.

MapleStory 2 will have 4 classes, with 8 jobs ready. The 4 classes are warriors, magicians, archers, and thieves. For example, Knights and Berserkers are classified as warriors. You will start as a Beginner, and choose one of the 8 jobs to play.

In the next posting, I’ll introduce one of the warrior jobs~

Very interesting! It seems that pirates will not be a class in MapleStory 2, with the Gunslinger becoming an archer job.

KNIGHT

It is all Knights’ responsibility to charge forward in battle and protect those behind them. While blocking enemies’ unstoppable attacks, they strike enemies at the perfect moment with their fast and skillful swordsmanship.

The Royal Guard, under the leadership of the Prime Minister Cal, protect Tria Palace and the area around it and act as guardians to the royal family. They are known for their incredible loyalty, chivalrous spirit, and excellent swordsmanship. The Royal Guard’s cardinal rule is to protect Ereb, it is of utmost importance to keep her safe from those who threaten her.

The Royal Guard’s elite Knights are strong warriors who defend their allies with a Long Sword and Shield. Their shields and armour, made with the lastest technology, is a collaboration between Tria and Perion. They are smelted by a skillful artisan from Tria using the finest minerals found in the nearby lava region. They are not only famous for their durability but also for their beautiful design.

Can I just say I am loving this artwork? I think it’s great, and these classes will definitely be interesting! I can’t wait to see the Ranger!

Hello MapleStory users.

The You & I update brought a lot of development to the game. After the RED update, we became engrossed with You & I in order to continue development and fulfill various promises we gave to you Maple Warriors.

Among these promises is one thing that many Maple Warriors have been asking about. Many people have awaited news about the Knights of Cygnus: Flame Wizard and Night Walker reorganizations.

We have focused our development to make sure each job’s concepts are original and have a fun play pattern.

Flame Wizard deals with flame magic and will focus on a dynamic battle pattern that is fun. Night Walker will maximize their original concept of shadows, and their play will be focused on control over stars.

Currently, internal development is in full swing, but we can say that when we are ready, we will be able to showcase these updates in the test server soon.

I know that everyone has high expectations and I hope we can meet them.

In addition to the Cygnus updates, we have also made some developments for the enhancement system. We will continue to share our work, so please give us comments.

MapleStory’s Story – Secret Story & Bon Voyage!

This post is gonna be a little different from my other posts, it’s not about a patch or events or anything. A lot of people liked the character relationships post I did a while back so I wanna do something similar.

This time, I’ll be talking about three different books Nexon has released for MapleStory (I mean there’s more but these are a specific type). They’re actually really cool and I’d like to own them myself one day, but for now, we’ll have to make do with pictures others have posted.

MapleStory Official Fanbook: Secret Story (Hero Edition)

SECRET 1 – WORLD VIEW

I think this part of the book was just like general details about MapleStory and it’s story, because no one has posted pictures of it so I guess I’ll just skip it haha.

SECRET 2 - HEROES

Mercedes, Queen of the Elves

Here are some sketches for early concepts of Mercedes! Thanks so much to Dolphin-Fly for the scan (and for later Hero concepts as well)! I think some of them actually look really good haha, I was never a fan of Mercedes’ design though.

Mercedes also has a Q&A section.

There’s also a comic version of Mercedes’ past (which we play in-game in the tutorial).

Aran, the Polearm Warrior

For Aran, they included sketches for both genders. I’m pretty sure he isn’t supposed to have a specific gender anymore haha.

Aran’s comic is about the Elin Forest refugees and how he stays behind to fight the Black Mage.

Phantom, the Master Thief

Phantom doesn’t seem like they changed much over his development. I don’t think that’s a problem though, Phantom is one of my favourite characters~

Phantom’s comic is, of course, how he sneaks into Ereb and foils Hilla’s plans.

Luminous, the Magician of Light and Darkness

Wow, black and red-haired Luminous! Some of those hairs look sort of silly lol.

Luminous’ comic is about the sealing of the Black Mage.

Evan, the Dragon Master

Evan’s designs were also very similar to his final release.

Evan’s comic has to do with both Freud and him finding Mir. It’s actually pretty sad, Freud is saying “But Afrien… don’t sacrifice yourself for me.”

Another part of the book is MapleStory If: “If I wasn’t a hero…”. It’s sort of like an alternate reality in which the Maple heroes are all school students haha.

I think parts of it are like a dating simulator as some of the characters try to ask out others lol.

Each of the characters also has a different back story! Mercedes is the all around good student, but her only flaw is that she cannot wake up early in the morning. It’s also mentioned she doesn’t understand relationships.

Aran is the typical jock student. He’s been in love with Mercedes since he first set eyes on her.

Phantom is the only son of the chairman of the Crystal Garden airlines, and hasn’t grown up with any hardships.

Luminous is the class president and very studious. Whenever he gets mad, Dark Luminous appears.

Evan is a younger student in the school. He is also in love with Mercedes, but she considers him a little brother.

Female Aran and Evan also show up in it, I think they’re fangirls of Phantom haha.

Another big part of the book is Maplebook, a Facebook parody where each of the heroes has their own pages, posts, pictures, etc.

There’s also a bunch of cute little comics strewn around, this one is about Cardcaptor Freud haha.

SECRET 3 – LAST STORY

Note: this book came out a while back, before we had even heard of EunWol. Maybe he wasn’t as shoehorned in as people thought? :-)

SECRET 0 – WORLD VIEW

Before I begin, I wanna mention this book came out like a month ago so there’s not that much information/pictures from it!

Like before, I don’t think this part is too important.

SECRET 1 – Commanders

This part of the book talks about 7 commanders (in-depth, there’s a couple more that are mentioned though!).

• Sage Arkarium
• Demon
• Treant Guwaru
• Wing Masters Orca and Suu
• Sibyl Hilla
• Lion King Van Leon
• Fallen Dragon Magnus

There’s a bunch of comics for each commander, detailing their history and how they became one.

Each commander has their own Secret Files, with special information about them. I heard the book talks about Orca and Suu’s birth?

There’s also Commander Kindergarten! It’s a cute little alternate universe comic where all the commanders go to a school where the Black Mage is their teacher, haha.

A bunch of smaller comics are included here and there, here’s one where Magnus leaves Pantheon (Monster Life anyone?).

Like the last secret story, there’s another parody of social networking! This time, it’s Twitter, or should I say, Mapler!

They also parodied Wikipedia, with M-Wiki. This one’s about Dimension Invade.

At the end they talk a little bit about the newer commanders, Spider King Will, another Demon Demian, and the Dream Manipulator!

The book doesn’t mention it but we see her in EunWol’s story, her name is Lucid and she’s actually an elf!

Each of the commanders has a Q&A as well, but Lucid doesn’t give any detail at all in her answers haha.

SECRET 2 – Truth

Someone posted this rough timeline of MapleStory’s history, which was from this Secret Story.

• The White Mage becomes the Black Mage. Luminous’ light is created. The Black Mage collects his forces and begins his attack on Maple World.
• Alicia creates the undersea tower, The Seed.
• Ephinia becomes corrupted. Guwaru is convinced by Ephinia to become a commander.
• The twins born in darkness, Orca and Suu become commanders.
• Hilla, Aswan’s shamaness, betrays Iason and becomes a commander.
• Van Leon, the Lion King, believes he is betrayed by the Knights of Cygnus and becomes a commander.
• Arkarium chooses a dark future, betrays the Goddess Rhinne, and becomes a commander.
• Magnus is injured after the former Kaiser sacrifices himself to destroy his forces. Darmoor sends Magnus to Maple World, where he becomes a commander.
• Afrien refuses to join the Black Mage, leading to their extinction.
• Suu and Orca kill Empress Aria. Phantom joins the heroes.

Trip to the Future (?) With Gelimer!

Gelimer has created a time machine to go to the future, what can it hold for us?

Apparently, in the future, the Black Mage is defeated?! Can Demon and Demian really be happy together in Leafre? Can Will be with his true love, spiders?

SECRET 4 – LAST STORY

I’m not sure what’s actually in this part, but here’s an ominous message from the Black Mage himself!

MapleStory ARTWORKS: Official Art Book (Bon Voyage)

This one’s my favourite of the three, there’s so much in here! It’s divided into 5 parts.

PART 1 – World

It’s the ship that goes from Victoria Island to Orbis! There’s even descriptions of each part of the ship.

Here are some early concepts for Crystal Garden. I think the one they went with was definitely the best haha. The one in the top right has Phantom’s hat built-in!

That early version of Edelstein looks pretty different from what we have now.

These versions of the Ancient City, Aswan are really… foggy. I wonder how long they spent on this, considering you can’t even explore Aswan anyways (still salty about them not making it its own area…).

Here’s Angelic Burster’s Room. I guess early AB was very self-absorbed, her room had portraits and statues of herself!

Wow, Ellinia looks really nice when it’s drawn like that! I wonder if they’re going to update its graphics like they did with Henesys?

PART 2 – Character

Here’s the new Adventurer warrior using different types of weapons.

This part of the book also has a lot of early designs for some skills, such as Archmage (I/L)’s Thunder Storm and Frozen Orb.

Here’s Bishop’s Heaven’s Door skill. That first one looks sort of odd haha.

Here’s Marksman’s Arrow Illusion, I think that badass version of Puppet is really cool, I wish they had chosen to keep it.

I think they might have loosely based the new Pirate art on the old one.

They also included Cannon Shooter and his new design. On the left you can see some early concepts for some Dual Blade skills, might be Tornado Spin?

I guess Demon Avenger’s Desperado was meant to have a bunch of engravings on it at first.

Wild Hunter’s Cross Road skill’s prototypes, I think one of those effects is an old Wind Breaker skill lol.

There were some posters made for Xenon, although I think we only saw one of them (the coloured in one).

On the right you can see Luminous’ art in positions different to his usual demeanor.

Here are some super cool concepts for Evan’s Onyx Dragons! I really wish they used one of these instead of the Mir we have, or at least let us choose which we wanted? Dragon customization?

PART 3 – NPC

This section of the book includes illustrations (and some early concepts) for many of the NPCs in MapleStory! For example, you can see many different designs for Gelimer, one of which was even a female!

There were a couple different designs for the Androids that Gelimer designed that reside in Leben Mine.

Shadrian and some other Elin Forest NPCs were shown as well.

Here’s the Former Kaiser, as well as young and older versions of Kyle, Tear, and Belderos.

There were some different outfits they were working on for Beryl, I think she looks best with the white so I’m glad they chose that.

Here’s Evan and Utah’s father, Grid. Some of those prototypes look a lot more like Utah haha.

PART 4 – Monster

This part is for the various monsters of MapleStory. Here you can see Dragonica, and some deep Ludibrium monsters.

They tried a bunch of things out for Lion King Van Leon. Some of them look really weird haha, like the bottom right. The top right looks sort of like Chopper’s Rumble form from One Piece!

They made Mutated Stumpy really fat lol. Some of those early concepts for the squirrel monster from Mu Lung make it look like it’s on drugs haha.

Here’s a detailed sketch of Zakum! I wonder what he would look like in-game if they made him recently instead of so many years ago.

Xerxes, from Chryse! The drawing at the bottom says “Sparta!” haha. I think the other ones are possible monsters they were gonna put in Chryse.

This part includes special illustrations and also EunWol! Here’s the 2013 New Year posters, featuring Xenon and Beryl.

Here’s the 2012 New Year ones, almost all of them have Angelic Burster but I think in the end they changed it to Mercedes. There’s also some really cute Luminous and Lania ones~

They went through a lot of designs for the 8th Anniversary poster!

If you guys remember the Palabird, there were a ton of different designs for it! Notice the Slime with wings and Yeti chicken LOL.
