Controls
As you can see, F1 through F7 are the facial expressions you can use throughout the game. The left right arrow keys move your character left and right, as the up and down arrow keys move you up and down ladders, ropes, vines, etc.
Basic Needs
Mesos are used as money in Maplestory. You can sell items for mesos.
In the AP menu there are groups called STR, DEX, INT, LUK, HP, and MP.
STR is for weapon damage and hp. DEX is for avoidabilty and accuracy INT is for magic damage and mp LUK is for everything that DEX is for and for thief's damage. HP increases, well you know, it increases hp. MP same with HP except increases MP.
Starting
Before entering Maple Story, you'll need to go to the main Maple Story website. After registering, enter Maple Story and log in. Go to any of the servers: Scania, Bera, Broa, Bellocan, Windia, Khaini, Mardia, and Kradia. Press create a character. Here you'll choose how your character will look, its name and stats. Your stats are completely randomized, and clicking on the dice will re-randomize them. There is no direct way to choose your stats. Unlike many other MMORPGs, you don't choose your job/class when you start off. The jobs/classes are Warrior, Magician, Bowman, and Thief. Though you can't choose your job right away, you will need to have your stats adjusted accordingly to the job you want, listed below. Now you're ready to start playing Maple Story!
Dice Roll
NOTE: This guide contains a dice roll section for AP points. We would like to inform you that dice roll function is not used anymore in GMS and MapleSEA. If you are a beginner, there is no need as all points are assigned to STR. When you get your job advancement, click A and then click on auto-assign points. Please avoid that section and everytime you level up, press 'a' and press auto-assign. You may continue that system or if you are looking to use a special point build eg. dexless assassin, then you may do so.

Mushroom Town Training Camp (MapleGlobal)
So you start off at a training camp. Just talk to the person in the lame leaf suit and go into the camp. You will be level 1. You will first see a guy named Roger. Double-click on him and he will take off some of your hp ( you will die when you lose all of your hp.) then go to your inventory (press i) and press use on the top and there will be a item called Rogers Apple double click on it and you will get your hp back. Then click on him again and you will get 3 exp ( get full exp and level up but higher the level, the more you need exp.) and three red potions( heals 50 hp) and three mp potions ( mp is mana and you need it to use special moves and heals 100 mp but don't use it yet cause it costs a lot when you're farther into the game.) Then there will be a girl called Nina talk to her and she will ask you to ask her brother sen what he wants for dinner. just walk for about 2 seconds and talk to him and go back to Nina and she will give you exp. and walk until you see Todd and talk to him. he will tell you to get items. so just go beat up those toys by pressing the ctrl button and also beat up a furball and go talk to peter and he will give you exp. Level up! there will be a screen that tells you what to do and every time u level up you need to go press "k" to open that menu and just add a skill point. Then press "s" and there will be another menu.
Beginner Builds
Builds are the way you put your AP into certain stats. It is advised to put your precious AP into stats that benefit your future class. There are many ways to do this, so many guides are listed. It is highly unrecommended to put any AP into either HP or MP. HP and MP raise automaticly when you level up so there's really no point in increasing your HP or MP with APc points
Note: These are only for up to level 10.
Warrior Build
- Put your AP into DEX so your DEX=(your level)*2. All the rest should be put into STR.
Thief Build
- Put your AP into DEX so your DEX=(your level)*2. All the rest should be put into LUK.
Magician Build
- Put your AP into LUK so that your LUK=(your level)+3. All the rest should be put into INT.
Bowman Build
- Put your AP into STR so that your STR=(your level)+5. All the rest should be put into DEX.
Ok now get out of the camp by talking to the last person.
NOTE: Your skill points are reset once you make the first job advancement, so you should put all of your points into strength (maybe some in dex).
Snail Hunting Grounds
Now once you're done with that, you will be in a completely different place. Now there will be a guy called Robin. Just talk to him if you want to know a bit about the game. Anyway, just walk a bit to the left and you will see a guy called Sam. He will have a light bulb above his head. That means he has a quest for you. He will say go kill 10 snails and go to a person called Mai. Snails are those snails with green shells. After you have killed them, go the shining spot and press the up arrow button. This is called a portal. You will arrive at a new map. Just look at the map at the top left of the screen and look for the blue dot. You are the red dot. Go to the place and you might want to kill a few snails on the way. On the next map there will be new monsters. The monsters are: Blue Snail, Red Snail.Shroom. Orange Mushroom. If you are going to be a Thief or a Magician, don't face the Red Snail or the Orange Mushroom.
Note:Mai is currently unlocatable as she shifted location. If anyone happens to see her(NPC), please fill in where she is.(MapleSEA) Yongjianrong 00:06, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Fields
There will be a person called Maria. She will give you a quest. You need to bring a letter to a guy called Lucas in a town called Amherst. Amherst is 2 portals away from here. Ok but first things first, Mai is on this map. Go talk to Mai and click Sam's Suggestion. If you killed 10 snails like I told you earlier, she will give you 30 exp. And take her quest. You need to kill 10 shrooms (small mushrooms that look angry), blue snails, and red snails. Just go forward 2 maps and here you are.... Amherst!
Amherst
The first person you will see will be called Rain. Talk to her and take her quest. It's just a bunch of quizzes. She will tell you a bit of the answers. Ok, here are the exact answers. But they are not in order. (Sorry!). E opens the equipment. I opens the inventory. Job classes that require level 10: Warrior, Thief, Bowman. Job classes that require level 8: Magician. How to get off this island: Go to Southperry.
