Developer Notes – Star Force Enhancement Changes & MapleStory 2 – YesterStory!

A new BGM titled YesterStory has been released for MapleStory 2! It’s sooo nice and peaceful, I love that it sounds similar to the older login screen, so much nostalgia!
In addition, the Developer Notes section on the MapleStory homepage has been updated with a post about the new enhancement system.
Hello Maple users, it’s Wonky.
First of all, I would like to say thank you to all of the users that gave us a lot of encouragement at the Coordinator’s Invitation event last Saturday.
At the Coordinator’s Invitation, we revealed that on July 24, the Coordinator’s Helping Hand: Star Force update would be released. Before this update, the developer team thought we should talk about the new Star Fore enhancement system, based on the changes to the test server as of July 17.
The Star Force enhancement update was planned in order to:
  1. Raise accessibility to equipment enhancements.
  2. Reduce the reliance on Cash items for equipment enhancements.
  3. Create a way to reach higher enhancement stages.
Many users that have tried the system on the test server have given us different opinions. The Star Force enhancement system was able to fulfill our desire for 1. accessibility and 2. reduced reliance on Cash items.
But the third goal of being able to reach high enhancement stages was not as successful. The developers were able to find some ways to change this and the adjustments will be released to the official server in the Coordinator’s Helping Hand: Star Force update.
1. Decreased cost of all stages of enhancements. The cost of enhancing was too high in earlier patches so we decreased them slightly.
2. Number of stars will downgrade upon failure before the 5th star. The cost of enhancing up to 10 stars was increased but we wanted to keep it accessible to lower levels so we removed the chance for the number of stars to lower before 5 stars.
3. The number of stars will not downgrade below 10, 15, or 20 stars upon reaching them.In the test server, when you reached 10 or 15 stars, you would receive a downgrade protection system which prevented your item’s enhancement stage from lowering below those. We have also added one at 0 stars so that it can be easier to reach higher stages. But, after 20 stars, we increased the destruction rate a fair amount in order to create some risk.
In the new Star Force enhancement UI, we added the ability to see each enhancement stage’s chances of success and failure as well as the cost. The previous enhancement system’s rates were much more hidden but this new system was meant to allow users to see these rates and judge for themselves whether or not the risk is worth it.
You can see the enhancement rates and costs in the table below.
Star Force Enhancement Rates
We have been testing the new Star Force enhancement system in the test server for a few months. After several updates, receiving the opinions of users, collecting and testing data, we are now ready to finally release it to the official server.
We hope that we can continue to receive feedback from users in the test server for other significant changes to the game. In addition, even after things are released to the official server, we will continue to collect and analyze data if future changes are needed. Meanwhile, we would like to say thank you to all the users in the test server who helped us refine the Star Force system.
We hope you continue to support us in the future, and also ask that you have fun with the new Coordinator’s Helping Hand: Star Force update.
Thank you.
I can’t wait for the new enhancement system! It’s so much cheaper and without risk of destroying until the 13th star, it should be easy to get some stars on all your equipment. The patch is tomorrow for those of you who don’t know!
